The Government of Papua New Guinea has signed a new deal with TechnologyOne to implement a modern, secure Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution across more than 200 local and central agencies to ensure community data is safe and business processes are efficient and transparent.
A TechnologyOne customer since 2005, the PNG government will take the next step in its digital transformation journey, implementing TechnologyOne’s Financials SaaS solution which will provide a single source of truth for budgets and expenditures and allow senior management and their teams to build dashboards to easily report on strategic goals and objectives and aid with decision-making.
Department of Finance, Treasury, Department of Health, Department of National Planning & Monitoring, Department of Lands & Physical Planning and many agencies will implement general ledger, accounts payable and receivable and enterprise budgeting modules as part of a Shared Services model. These modules will provide a real-time, holistic view of each agency’s financial data, allowing them to manage reporting and budgeting, ensure timely payments and streamline operations with automated workflows.
Stephen Nukuitu, Deputy Secretary of Operations at Papua New Guinea’s Department of Finance said: “The move to TechnologyOne’s secure SaaS solution is a key step as part of our Government Cloud Policy 2021, a strategic shift to leverage SaaS to improve Government service delivery and enhance commercial and business activities.”
“We recognised the need for improved business processes to take manual work away from our team and provide a transparent view of all our financial data, allowing us to make decisions and complete tasks for our community faster,” said Mr Nukuitu.
“Our main priority is our community and keeping our community’s data safe. In 2022, we had a cyberattack on our on-premise system which resulted in our residents not being able to receive payments that they were waiting for over the Christmas period. That’s when we knew we needed to make the switch to SaaS to ensure data stays safe and secure,” said Mr Nukuitu.
TechnologyOne’s SaaS solution also delivers the highest security and privacy measures, which is a key requirement for any government to ensure data is kept safe. The leading government enterprise SaaS vendor integrates and maintains the latest in innovative security and privacy technologies, investing 20 per cent of revenue towards R&D every year.
TechnologyOne’s Chief Executive Officer, Ed Chung, said: “We have partnered with government agencies and departments for more than 30 years now. Our OneGovernment solution focuses on delivering a highly secure platform, seamless services and key business operations to keep our customers ahead of the curve.”
“It’s a project close to my heart, my parents immigrated from PNG to Australia in 1977. We are proud to support the Government of Papua New Guinea transform its back-end IT systems to SaaS so it can deliver quality support for its community. Rolling out widespread, modern, and resilient infrastructure with sufficient capacity is key to the economic development and resilience of PNG,” said Mr Chung.
