TechnologyOne (ASX: TNE), Australia's largest enterprise software company, today announced its partnership with the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) as naming rights partner of the league's pre-season tournament, to be held in Townsville from 17–20 September 2026.
Over 4 days, the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off will bring together the nation’s best players — with teams from every state and the Australian Capital Territory — to the home of the reigning champions, the Townsville Fire. Supporters young and old will have the chance to meet their heroes and experience elite women's basketball in their own backyard.
The partnership reflects a shared determination to make women's sport accessible to all Australians, no matter where they live. Born in Queensland over 39 years ago, TechnologyOne has never stopped backing the communities in which it operates, from grassroots initiatives to the organisations and events that make a difference in people's lives.
The TechnologyOne Foundation anchors the partnership's community impact. Through its 1% Pledge, the Foundation commits 1% of profit, product and employee time to the community, working towards its goal of lifting 500,000 children and their families out of poverty by 2032. During the tournament, the Foundation will be making a charitable contribution to a local Townsville partner for every pair of yellow shoes spotted at the event.
The tournament carries national significance on the road to Brisbane 2032, when the Opals and the Gliders will once again carry the dreams of many Australians as they chase glory on the court. The athletes who will wear green and gold at the Olympic and Paralympic Games are competing in this league today.
Minister for Sport, Tim Mander said the “Crisafulli Government is committed to delivering opportunities for sport in North Queensland, and its events like these that showcase our regions and boost the local economy”.
“Queensland is the home of Australian sport, and a huge part of that is the contribution that North Queensland makes to developing talent and creating a strong sense of community around sport.”
"Backing events like the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off is part of our commitment to growing women's sport, strengthening regional communities and building excitement as Queensland prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
Local Member for Townsville Adam Baillie said the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off would reinforce the region’s growing reputation as a destination for elite sporting events.
"This is exactly the kind of event regional Queensland needs, bringing visitors through the door, filling hotel rooms and backing local jobs,” Mr Baillie said.
"We're getting on with the job of securing more events that grow regional economies like Townsville and keep Queensland leading the nation."
Chief Executive Officer of TechnologyOne, Ed Chung, said: “Our purpose has always been to make life simple for the communities we serve, and for almost 40 years, that has meant backing the local things that matter: the clubs, the volunteers, the grassroots competitions where every great Australian sporting story begins. Bringing all nine WNBL teams to Townsville for four days is that purpose brought to life.”
“We proudly support women in tech and women in sport, because they’re the same story; exceptional talent that deserves real backing. As Brisbane 2032 approaches, the Opals and the Gliders will carry the dreams of many Australians, and the athletes who’ll wear the green and gold are on these courts right now. With kids going free, we hope families across the north come along to meet their heroes.”
WNBL Chief Operating Officer, Justin Nelson said this marks a major milestone for Australia’s longest-running women’s league.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome TechnologyOne to the WNBL family. Last year the Townsville community turned out in force. Thanks to the support of TechnologyOne, this partnership really has the power to take our pre-season to the next level.”
“This year we will be broadcasting the event thanks to our broadcast partners across 9GO! And Disney+. We will also be trialling some new innovations to experiment with during pre-season. We’re thinking outside the box and looking at new ways to innovate and connect with our fans.”
WNBL Chief Strategy and Basketball Partnerships, Lauren Jackson, said she’s looking forward to seeing the action take centre stage in North Queensland.
“Queensland has some incredible basketball talent, you only need to look at some of our WNBL players hailing from across the state; Cairns, Mackay, South-East Queensland and Townsville.”
“The TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off is an opportunity for us to spotlight local talent and connect directly with the next generation of athletes across North Queensland.”
