TechnologyOne is investing in Tasmania’s future technology workforce through an existing contractual arrangement with TasTAFE, that includes funding fully paid vocational placements for IT students to gain hands-on experience inside a large software company.
Each year, the initiative will see five TasTAFE students travel to TechnologyOne’s Brisbane headquarters for two weeks, working across cyber security, research and development, consulting and support teams. TechnologyOne covers all travel costs, removing financial entry barriers to participation.
According to Jobs and Skills Australia’s Jobs and Skills Report 2025, demand for digital and technology skills continues to grow across Australia, with regional students facing additional barriers to accessing industry experience and career pathways.
The program, part of TechnologyOne’s economic and social impact initiative, provides students with real-world industry exposure and in-demand skills, while creating a clear pathway into technology careers.
TechnologyOne Executive Vice President of Higher Education Mark Jones said, “Access to real industry experience can make a significant difference for students starting in technology. These placements allow TasTAFE students to work alongside our teams, develop practical skills and gain a better understanding of where a career in technology can take them.”
“By removing the cost barrier, we’re making that opportunity more accessible and helping build the next generation of technology talent in Tasmania.”
TasTAFE CEO Dr Norman Baker said work placement opportunities is a ‘win-win’ for learners, industry and vocational education and training (VET) providers.
“VET providers equip a future ICT workforce with hands-on, job ready skills that are immediately transferable to the workplace.
“Learners can apply their knowledge in a real-world environment through work placement opportunities, and VET providers receive feedback from businesses to ensure course content is up-to-date and relevant to industry,” Dr Baker said.
Students participating in the program are studying Certificate III through to Diploma level IT qualifications, with career pathways into roles such as IT administrators and network support specialists.
This initiative reflects TechnologyOne’s commitment to building local Tasmanian talent and strengthening Australia’s digital capability.
